Life Story
The late Sister in Christ Mwalimu Elizabeth Njeri Kiarie was born in Wabuga Village, Kabete on 7 April 1926. She was the second born child to the late Robert Njuguna Ndiho and the late Damaris Wangui. Her siblings were the late John Mwaura and Alexander Njoroge and those with us today, Wilfred Kiarie, Esther Wanjiru Kirubi, Margaret Wambui Magu .
Education
Elizabeth started school in 1935 at Watho-ini currently known as Mary Leakey Girls. The school was later closed in 1940 to give way to a boarding school for girls only. Elizabeth was transferred to Uthiru where she sat for her Common Entrance examination in 1943 and passed well. She then joined Kabete Intermediate School in 1944 until 1945.
Marriage and Family Life
“How hard it is to find a capable wife! She is worth far more than jewels!” Proverbs 31:10
Elizabeth and Eliud Kiarie Ndekei met and fell in love. Eliud had come from Nakuru to seek education in Kabete in 1947. They got married on 30 May 1953 at CMS Kabete. The wedding was officiated by the late Rev. Andrew Macua. They were blessed with six children namely: Mary Wambui, Damarys Wangui, John Ndekei, Robert Njuguna, David Ngugi and Richard Mwaura. They did a commendable job in bringing up their children and educating them. They gave each of their children an opportunity to get an education up to whichever level they aspired to reach. Elizabeth was a great believer in education and used to tell her children that education is the best and timeless gift a parent can give to a child.
